The Schuylkill River Heritage Area cut the ribbon on a new section of the Schuylkill River Trail on July 23. The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by about 30 people, and the ribbon was snipped by Sen. Dave Argall. It took place near the corner of Walnut and Canal Streets in Leesport Borough. The 1,843-foot long, 10-foot wide, gravel multi-use trail begins at Belleman’s Church Road in Ontelaunee Township and ends at Canal Street in Leesport Borough. From Canal Street it connects with a signed, on-road piece of trail to bring trail users to Washington Street, where another 2,100-foot long off-road section was built last year. All together, the on and off-road trail totals 2.2 miles. Read more.
